I love my husband...
Too bad the bass player failed the song - four times in a row. This was the first attempt - sorry it is so short.
(You can hear me in the background - I thought it was Lowell who made it fail, yes I will admit that I was the one of little faith.)

They came to play...
This weekend my former roommate Carolyn and her husband Steve were in town. We enjoyed showing them around our town for the weekend. It was great to see them, especially since due to a mis-communication we never really said goodbye in Provo after graduation. (She was out of town when I thought she was back and she thought we would be in Utah longer than we were.)
Friday night we went out for Thai food in the Borough. Saturday we headed into Philly to see the sites there including the Rocky Statue, The Love Statue, and several sites in Historic Downtown. Unfortunately I didn't get many pictures on my camera so you will have to look at their blog when she posts...hint hint, nudge nudge, Carolyn.
We were also convinced to try a new site and explored the Eastern State Penitentiary. So cool! I highly recommend it!
Intently listening to the audio tour...
A somber picture for a somber place:
I really like the lighting in these!

On the trip, Carolyn and Steve were introduced to the joy that is Wawa - and more importantly Wawa's Hoagie Fest. On our way to Baltimore we had to stop for treats to sustain them on the flight home.
Thank you Carolyn and Steve for coming and for the wonderful time! The door is always open! (That goes for all other friends and family who want to see the East Coast. You won't be disappointed.)

A Philadelphia Fourth...
I apologize for the delay in Fourth of July pictures - the past week was insane.
Last year we spent the Fourth in D.C. after weeks of planning. This year it wasn't until the morning of the 4th we finally decided our course of action.
On July 3rd we played a rousing game of beach volleyball at a local park with several friends from our ward and also from work. Lowell then bought running shoes for his marathon training and rushed off to a "brocation" in Virginia. While he was gone I enjoyed the evening with the Fishers - and watched a great fireworks show.
Lowell returned early the next morning after three hours of sleep. We set off for the day's festivities in Philadelphia. We rode the train into Philly and then set out for Independence Hall, arriving just in time for the end of the morning's ceremony and the start of the parade.

Pretty good for only three hours of sleep don't you think?
My favorite part of the parade was the "Historical" division with people dressed up as characters from history.
Thomas Jefferson and George Washington
A fife and drum corps
And women from the Civil War era.

Following the parade we meandered around "Independence Hall Park" (I don't know the real name).
We soon came across a "Tea Party" and joined in for a few minutes. Then we were off on more adventures. One of the many signs.
After a quick stop at the "Love" statue and a dip of our feet in the cold fountain -

we found ourselves enjoying the "Party on the Parkway." Benjamin Franklin Parkway closes off for the afternoon and has tons of street vendors and activities. Please note the Museum of Art in the background.
We were daring and split a cheesesteak from one of the vendors...definitely not the best option. Lowell did love the sweetpotato fries he found though!
After much walking we found ourselves, especially Lowell, quite tuckered out. So, we ran to catch a train and headed home. At home, I found myself rushing to make a flag cake and then to head to a barbecue with the Fishers.
The hamburgers were delicious, the desserts were in abundance, and the company fabulous - however the fireworks were calling so we headed out again...
To Kerr Park for what we were told were some of the best local fireworks. Can you see the excitement in his face?
We were enjoying the show, except for being pelted with ash and firework debris. At first we thought bugs were swarming - until further inspection had us find ash all over us and our blankets. Right before the finale, everything came to a halt and they stopped the show. A girl behind us said there was a fire was in the woods. For the next twenty minutes they kept saying to wait, then they sent us home saying the show was suspended. Quite the disappointment - however the part we did see was very cool. (Later the paper said it was because the ash was too low and people were complaining. They were also worried about fire because some stuff was still burning as it came down.)
Overall it was a wonderful 4th of July! We are so lucky to live to close to many historical sites and huge celebrations. I can't wait to see what we do next year!
