So my cousin Jessica has tagged me a few times and I always forget. This time she even tagged both of us hoping Lowell might get in on the fun. Well, I don't know about him, but here you go...

8 Things That Happened Today: Since it is still morning in Pennsylvania and my 8 things would be quite odd - lets do 8 things for yesterday
1. Went to Work
2. Enjoyed the rain - from the inside...it was way too cold outside
3. Frosted my sugar cookies
4. Went to the grocery store
5. Made potato soup and garlic bread! Yumm!
6. Blog hopped, including cJane for my NieNie updates
7. Watched "Dan in Real Life" and cuddled with Lowell
8. Talked to my Dad on the phone - I wish he could come up here while on his trip to VA for work! However the trip was planned last minute and neither one of us has the ability to make the 5+ hour drive this weekend.

Apples, Pumpkins, and Hay - Oh My!
Yesterday Lowell and I ventured to the local orchard. We had a blast!
The day began with a rousing game of picking apples. Unfortunately, we went so late in the season the apple orchards were pretty picked over. We did find a few - including some "Golden Delicious" which are currently in the oven becoming a scrumptious pie. :)
Next we wandered through Pumpkinland, drank some delicious cider and enjoyed donuts while waiting for our hayride. The apple cider was sooooo good! We just had to stock up on some for the upcoming week.
The conclusion of our evening was a hayride through the orchards. I was dumbfounded by the number of crops and sheer amount of land in the middle of a very populated area of Pennsylvania that was set aside for crops. In their respective seasons Linvilla Orchards produces apples, peaches, pears, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, tomatoes, pepper and pumpkins - all of which you can pick your own. Lowell says we are going every month next summer to partake of the bounty. I guess that means I need to learn how to can. :)
The hayride ended with a bonfire. Gotta love roasted marshmallows and more cider!

In other news, Lowell's company was rated the Second Best "Large" Company to work for in Philadelphia. "How about them apples?"...as Lowell would say.

FIRE!
Okay - so maybe it wasn't as drastic as the title might seem, yet Lowell and I had our first kitchen fire a couple days ago.
Here is the play-by-play. I asked Lowell to start cooking some rice for dinner. All went well for the first two minutes. Lowell and I retreated to the living room waiting for dinner to be ready. Suddenly - I heard a "poof" like something was igniting.
I wait a few seconds trying to figure out what the noise could have been. Curiosity got the better of me and I turned the corner to the kitchen only to find flames coming from the stove. All of the training I received regarding kitchen fires was quickly forgotten. I summoned Lowe
ll into the kitchen (please note this was NOT a yell or a scream it was simply "uh...uh...Lowell. Lowell, please come here...") - to which he couldn't move fast enough to match the paralysis that had overcome me. The culprit - a burning hot pad - was quickly thrown into the kitchen sink. Luckily was caught it before the complex burnt down.

Instead of the one with the pot of rice, he started the burner that my hot pad had been left on, the heat was too much for the hot pad and it died a painful death.
The evening's casualty was my favorite hot pad. It was an orange pumpkin I had just pulled out for fall, it was also the first "fall" decoration I purchased after getting married.
Lowell has promised me a new one...now that is a good husband. :)

Philly's getting a temple!
As everyone by now probably knows, Philadelphia is getting a temple!
Lowell said its official, we can stay here longer because we don't have to drive 2-3 hours for a temple. (Which yes, I do realize is quite a short drive compared to some situations in the world.)

Long Awaited Updates (I'm sure)
So, I have been a blog slacker. Work has been really busy and I know have another thing working from home. I need to learn how to separate work and life - especially when I am working from home. I haven't taken many breaks this week.
Well, yesterday I was babysitting for a family in my ward. At one point we were watching PBS for quiet time as the baby went to sleep upstairs. A show that I am not familiar with came on - "Behind (or maybe its 'between') the Lions." The little lion cub ordered a mane growing kit from a commercial - that was guaranteed to make your "mane grow in one day or not".
The"or not" in fine print and whispered on the commercial. The cub ordered the kit - and of course it didn't work. Instead of his parents telling him lesson learned - you need to read the fine print, or some other aspect of personal responsibility for ones actions (in this case not paying attention to the fine print), the cub made a video to send to the company telling them that he was mad and wanted his money back. What happens at the end of the episode - he gets his money back! I was irate!
No wonder no one takes responsibility for their actions any more. They are ingrained at a young age that it is everyone else's fault. This was a prime time to teach the young cub, and in turn the kids watching the show, that they need to take responsibility and not blame someone else for not reading the fine print. The company, while not as loudly as declaring the success of the project, clearly stated that the product may not work and they weren't responsible. How often do people fall for this and then blame the company expecting everything to be fixed? Maybe things would be a little different in today's society if people did some research and took responsibility for their actions.
Don't even get me started on "Sid the Science Kid." What has happened to children's programming today?
